As The Crow Flies (series), 2013.Inkjet print.
As The Crow Flies was shown at So Many Minds 2, Chiang Mai University Art Center, Thailand. The work referenced tourism in Chiang Mai, the influence of social media and online travel sites. In the photographs, Hay was seen looking back at the viewer through projected images of Chiang Mai. The work became a portrait of the foreigner in a loop of the seen and unseen, the authentic and the imagined. A separate component of this work recorded the distance and time taken to travel from Australia to Thailand using a variety of measurements.

This series was constructed as a diary of Hay's time in Japan. The work recorded small fragments of life which were then titled based on a system of observing the images and pairing them through a poetic charade or suggested first response.
The House that Bleeds Light, 2011. Inkjet Print.
In June, 2011, Hay was the sole occupant of a large house in Kyoto. During this time he documented the architecture and garden and made a series of night works using studio lighting. The work recorded the activation of a silent space to expose an internal life.
